Check it out, this weekend Bikes and BBQ hosted by Three Point Turnz if only I wasn't working that day! Orange 10/16/2009
Bike maintenance went a little overboard last night. Grabbed a new tyre for the rear one that blew out earlier in the week. The local bike shop had run out of black so I opted for orange and that's where it all began. See the front paint of my bike is orange and the rear is white. So I couldn't just put the orange tyre on the back it would throw out the colour balance. Off came the front wheel and tyre on went the orange one then off with the back and put what had been the front tyre onto the rear wheel. Co ordination restored was all set for the weekend. Decided to go check out national Ride to Work day with the free breakfast being put on by the City of Sydney this morning Gorgeous weather, lots of commuter cyclists and saw a few friends in the crowd as well. On offer was some bagels, a brown fruit nut log thing that may or may not have been made of rubber? and a mountainous amount of yoghurt. The yoghurt people just kept giving it away even when they already saw you carrying some, so now my fridge has 16 yoghurt tubs in it (awesome!). Is a nice idea to encourage people to ride to work and hopefully a few who wouldn't normally ride, did take the plunge today and figure out it's heaps easier than public transport or car. More photos can be seen on the events page Loud noises in the park 10/13/2009
The sound of a rear tyre under explosive decompression is much louder than I remember. We went for a ride after work taking advantage of daylight savings. Left here through the traffic laughing at all the people sitting along in their cars waiting in traffic as we zipped by. Into the park spotting a few tricked out bikes obviously here for the World Masters Games on this week, do the first quarter of the park loop and BANG! Initially I didn't even realise the noise came from my bike, slowed down and pulled out of the bike lane to find my rear tyre with a gaping hole. A quick dash down the road found the culprit a small branch maybe 5cm long that felt nice and pointy. I wasn't sure that the branch had caused the tyre to pop until we pulled the rest of it from inside the inner tube. Leaving the others to their ride I walked my bike home...at least I don't live too far from the park. New Winter caps! 10/11/2009
While the sun is getting ever warmer here in the land often known as 'down under' for many now is the time when the cold nips at your toes in the morning and forces you deeper under the covers missing those vital early morning rides. With the true test being do you leave your warm snug bed for the call of the street where the ghostly fog lingers and creates weird shadows in the lights? Or do you roll over and convince yourself all your rivals didn't make it out of bed either? As many of us know, if you can make it out of bed that early morning ride with the steam rising from your mouth as you take each breath is the thing dreams are made of. It makes you stronger, faster, tougher and creates a kinship with the street that no other time of the day can ever foster. Now with the warmth of a Rocket Fuel winter cap covering your ears the snooze button will no longer be your friend, you will already be on the road safe in the knowledge that come spring time you'll be out front of the pack. My new cycling cap 10/08/2009
